nolose 2012:
FAT STRIKES BACK!
an activist camp of epic proportions
This year's conference has passed. Thanks to all who attended! See below for information about what happened, and we'll keep you updated about future fun.
On September 7-9, in a big, fat galaxy known as the San Francisco Bay Area, fatties will be dreaming and scheming ways to bring fat activism into every corner and moment of our lives. Join us for our own fat justice camp, complete with DIY workshops, coalition building, skill sharing, pool time, delicious food, and tons of fun. It's an exciting year for us, with the new gender policy in place, challenging work to be done, and seriously good times to be had. Trust us, you don't want to miss it!
financial assistance, scholarships, and the POC travel/lodging fund
The application process for FA, scholarships, and the POC travel/lodging fund is now closed. If you have any questions about your application, please email info@nolose.org. We have three different categories and pots of money to distribute: A) financial aid for registration; B) travel and lodging scholarships for People of Color; C) registration scholarships for individuals in underrepresented groups. These are reviewed separately and with different criteria.
keynote
We're thrilled to announce that this year's keynote speaker will be Collette Carter (left), co-director of the Audre Lorde Project (a community organizing center for lesbian, gay, bisexual, two-spirit, trans and gender non-conforming people of color) and a self-identified "black queer fat femme activist." She says, "I believe at the heart of lasting movement-building is the work of making spaces which help us sustain hope and the possibility for survival, as well as transformation." We couldn't agree more! The conference will be held at the Oakland EconoLodge again this year; hotel rooms are available through the conference registration page.conference registration and hotel reservations
We'll be back at the EconoLodge this year, but this time, you can reserve your hotel room online when you register for the conference! Instead of making your hotel reservations through the EconoLodge*, you'll be reserving your room (should you choose to stay at the EconoLodge) through NOLOSE, with your conference registration. (You can also choose to do the two transactions separately, at different times, on our registration page.) On that page, you can add items to your cart, including various levels of conference registration, a Friday night hotel stay, and/or a Saturday night hotel stay. You'll then be asked to answer some questions about accessibility/floor/room needs so we can do our best to make your conference experience great.*Please do not call the EconoLodge to make a reservation, or attempt to reserve on their website. If you do, you will be told that there are no rooms available.
workshops and entertainment
Thinking you might like to teach a workshop, sing a song, dance in a banana costume, or otherwise entertain your fellow fatties? Submit your proposal here! The deadline is Sunday, July 15.
