Hi from the NOLOSE Board of Directors! It's April, and spring and we hope
you are all enjoying the sunshine (unless you are in the Southern
Hemisphere, in which case we hope you are enjoying the sunshine of the
fall). You might not have heard from us in awhile, but we've been very
busy. We got new Board members, and we've been trainin'em up hard. We are
getting ready to have one of our in person Board meetings in a couple of
weeks, and we know we've got a lot of work to do. Look for another
NOLOSE-announce before the end of the month. In the mean time, we wanted to
make sure that you knew that the

*FAT GIRL FLEA MARKET*

is back. That's right, it's this Saturday, April 4 from 11-8 at the Center
in NYC (in the same place). Here are the details:
  Date: Saturday, April 4, 2009
 Time: 11:00am - 6:00pm
 Location: NYC LGBT Center
 Street: 208 West 13th Street
 City/Town: New York, NY

  Email: info at fatgirlfleamarket.com
Description The Fat Girl Flea Market is an amazing and cheap shopping
frenzy! The fleamarketeers, as we call ourselves, collect clothes in sizes
XL to 6X and above. Women from all over the country donate their unworn or
gentlly loved clothing. Many still have tags and all are in great condition.

Last year's flea market was attended by women visiting from Boston,
Philadelphia, and even Las Vegas.

Almost all items are priced below $10 and most are under $5.

Every piece of clothing has been lovingly inspected and only items that are
in good condition make it to the flea market tables. The money raised at The
Fat Girl Flea Market is donated to NOLOSE for conference-related expenses,
particularly the scholarship fund.

And, wouldn't you like to know who the Board of Directors is?? Well, here's
your chance. I wrangled all of them (no easy feat), and got them to write a
few words about themselves to share with you.

*Tara Shuai* is a New York-based queer Asian high femme by way of DC and
Virginia. In addition to being a non-profit diva, she enjoys blogging about
the intersections of fat and race, playing Scrabble, traveling, being
uppity, and baking sweets.

*Geleni Fontaine* is a fat, queer, Latina/o transperson living and working
in Brooklyn, New York as an acupuncturist and anti-violence advocate.

*Naima Lowe* writes, performs, directs, studies, makes movies, teaches,
lives and loves in Philadelphia, PA. She's currently working on creative and
curatorial projects that focus on her favorite things: Queers, people of
color, the art they make, and the worlds they devise. More at
www.naimalowe.com.

*Devra Polack* is a fat activist who's been working with NOLOSE since 2004.
She lives in Portland, Oregon, believes that ridiculous movement might be
the way back home, and makes her living as a Flash/web/multimedia designer.

*Amanda Piasecki* is a working stiff of the World Wide Web, giant monster
femme, and avant-fat artist. She's proud to call Oakland, CA home and serve
as the treasurer of the NOLOSE board.

*Sondra* is a lawyer and diversity trainer who often finds herself writing
zines, plays and books that challenge stereotypes about fat and explore the
intersections of discrimination.

*Jen Herrington.* After years of study with back-to-the-land radicals, rural
working class dudes, and second wave feminists, Jen is planning a study of
big city queerness while majoring in Architecture. This somewhat-butch,
superfat, switchy crip brings to the NOLOSE board skills she has gained from
her experiences as an A-1 paper pusher, sex educator, collective member, and
demanding yet generous Daddy.

*Zoe Meleo-Erwin* is a fourth year PhD student at the City University of New
York Graduate Center. Her research interests include the disciplinary and
productive effects of discourse around the obesity epidemic; similarities
and differences between disability rights, transgender and fat activist
movements and the social, bodily and psychological experiences of weight
loss surgery patients. She is the author of "Reproductive Technology:
Welcome to the Brave New World" in Redesigning Life: The Worldwide Challenge
to Genetic Engineering, Brian Tokar, ed. and "Fat Activism" in The Cultural
Encyclopedia of the Body, Victoria Pitts, ed.. Ms. Meleo-Erwin is a long
time social justice activist and community organizer.

*Cristy Cardinal* has been working with NOLOSE since 2001, shortly after
attending her first conference. She is a big fan of letting the rubber hit
the road, and for real life, practical solutions to fat oppression. While
not an intellectual, she’s smart as hell and good looking too (though
sometimes a little flaky). She lives in Ann Arbor, MI where she co-parents a
charming toddler with her ex-partner.

*Joe Libin* is a Canadian import who teaches school and lives in Oakland,
CA.

With love and solidarity,

Cristy, and the rest of the Board
